If it comes back, I=E2=80=99m gonna try to have a closer look at the =
lower mandible. My recollection is that the light area was quite =
extensive, as in Bicknell=E2=80=99s. Also, it was =
=E2=80=9Cdumpy=E2=80=9D looking for a thrush,  =20

=20

I don=E2=80=99t anticipate a song; guess that would be needed to clinch =
it.

=20

I used to complain about the burning bush which has hosted both this =
little guy and the bluebirds. Guess it has earned its keep, this year!

One of the subspecies of Gray-cheeked, that breeds in Newf&Labrador can =
also show a reddish tail. The visual distinctions between those and =
Bicknell=E2=80=99s are so fine I doubt even a photo would be of much =
help. Some guides say they are only reliably identified by DNA and song. =

Either way it is a great signing.

(1) Subsequent to my bluebird posting of yesterday, my nephew saw a =
catbird in the same bush (a burning bush; the berries are attracting =
lots of birds) on Wyman Road, south of Yarmouth. He also mentioned =
seeing a thrush, but not well enough to identify to species. He =
speculated that it might be a Swainson=E2=80=99s.

(2) Well, the thrush just returned to the same bush. I =
didn=E2=80=99t get an ideal look at it, but dis have various views. =
Isn=E2=80=99t a Swainson=E2=80=99s because there is no obvious eye-ring. =
I was about to conclude grey-cheeked, but it turned, and there looked to =
be an indistinct reddish tinge to the tail. Makes me suspect a =
Bicknell=E2=80=99s.  Strongly.

Don=E2=80=99t think it=E2=80=99s a hermit; colouring didn=E2=80=99t look =
right and it didn=E2=80=99t flick its tail. =20

(3) On the way into town about 12:45, as I was approaching the golf =
course (of tundra bean goose fame) on Main Street, a large- crow-sized =
accipiter clew over, flapping slower than a sharp-shin. Reddish tinge =
on the belly, flap behaviour, size, and rounded tail makes me sure it =
was a Cooper=E2=80=99s.  =20
