The feeder serves mainly chickadees and may have felt too = small for this bird. I saw the bird from about 15 feet away, indoors. =E2=80=A2 Size a tad larger than a fat song sparrow, and roughly the = same shape * Colour seemingly even warm buff all over.=20 =E2=80=A2 Light or white eye ring =E2=80=A2 Cardinal-like bill, scaled down to the size of this mystery = bird. Similar in colour to the body of the bird. =E2=80=A2 Flew away to a nearby tangle of dead perennials and clematis = on a fence, not into trees, and seemed to move around within that for a = bit. The most striking thing was this bird=E2=80=99s plainness. The closest I = can find is female brown-headed cowbird, but the cowbird appears = slimmer, thinner-billed, and more differentiated in plumage than my = specimen. Any ideas?
