The province is planni= ng to introduce a new clause in our rockweed leases. It will require all le= ase holders to have a 3rd party biomass assessment or validation of their a= ssessment of Ascophyllum nodosum resources prior to harvesting the lease fo= r the first time. As such, there is going to be an increasing demand for scientists that are = approved by our Department to conduct the assessments. At this time, I am o= nly aware of one scientist in Nova Scotia with experience doing this type o= f work. I am wondering if you are aware of any scientists at your universit= y who would be willing, able, and available to do this type of work? I=92ve= attached a copy of the protocol used for some insight as to what is requir= ed. There are essentially 2 phases; aerial assessment to determine size of = the rockweed bed, and then field work to determine the biomass contained. I= f you know of someone, or a combination of people who can accomplish these = projects, could you please pass along their name and contact information so= I can get in touch?
