Land use changes, urbanization of rural areas, mindless pursuit of=20 the horizon, bug zappers and the like, sanitation overkill and vehicle=20 traffic are some of the forces which come to mind. There must be abrupt=20 changes in air pressure at the rear end of large trucks and I expect=20 many insects are killed in this way. I recall one section of the 101=20 where the sandy highway margin down-wind of a hog operation was black=20 with dead Scarabidae.
