Its a dirty carry to get into it - a good thing<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">folks stay away.<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">When I got to the Brook it was higher than usual. "Beavers at Work" signs<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">everywhere but it was good paddling - no more push throughs - I went down<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">a Km or so and came across the damn. It was about 1 meter high and had been constructed<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">where an big dead spruce tree had fallen across a narrow part of the stream. They<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">had plugged the branches with many things, branches they had cut, sods, rocks, mud</span> <span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">and anything else to hand. Even they had decorated it with Canada Holly. Lots of berries<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">very lovely. It had backed up a lot of water and will end up redoing the sides of the stream<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">in a few years.<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Wood Ducks were scattered along the stream. 2s and 3s with a little flock of 6. They don't like<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">canoes sneaking up on them so I never got very close. Wildlife experts tell me they migrate<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">east from Quebec and stop here and then go south. They seem to fit beaver damns.<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">The maples have lost a lot of leaves there but the leaves that were left on the Red<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Maples were a very dark Red combined nicely with the green of the pines and the yellows<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">and greens of the other hardwoods. I suspect the extra water from the damn cause the<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">leaves to turn earlier and may make them darker but I don't pretend to be an academic!<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Brook Trout were in fine form. One 30 cm male was especially lovely with the red fins and <br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">the little kipe on his chin. A fine fish and he had lots of friends. Brook Chubs were plentiful <br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">also - I must have unbuttoned a couple of dozen that grabbed my fly. An interesting<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">little fish - one of the first causalities of SMBass or Pickerel. Little known also.<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Dragon flies were plentiful - Big ones little ones and all sizes in between. They were oviposting<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">in several spots - seemed quite selective as to spots. everyone wanted the same spot. Had<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">to be a reason!<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">A great day - get out and do some paddling!<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Paul<br/></span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;"> </span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;"> </span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;"> </span> </div> </body></html>
