Dear All, Jul 23, 2017

While mowing two roads today (made in 2002 for horse logging) I =
noticed two new stands of Jack-in-the-pulpit. I mow these roads every =
year so they are recent. [As an aside, with three stands of =
Jack-in-the-pulpit, it is now more abundant than Epipactis helleborine =
which for a few years was always in view in this area.]=20

Spruce are on the way out; 8 of 10 trees of significant size are =
dead or marking time.

Near here, where Arthur cross piled six large Poplar across the =
road in 2014 (?), I tilled a lot of sawdust in when I tried to drive up =
when the road was wet. The following year this 10' x 30' patch of road =
was crawling with myxomycetes and now has a rich stand of Glyceria =
stricta var striata. In woodland soils some disturbance may be positive.

Yt, Dave Webster
