Two weeks ago we had the first Monarchs in our field of Common Milkweed. The flowers have since peaked and are on the wane but we still have the original four Monarchs that were here then. Today on my survey of the field I found two pairs coupled and two other Monarchs flying over the field. There has been egg laying over the last two weeks and we have collected over fifty eggs and larvae to raise inside for predator protection. Other butterflies we have are the usual whites, sulphurs, a fritillary, a lady (sp), and Wood Nymphs which are not becoming abundant. One butterfly, I expected and have not seen is the Viceroy.
