I have a globe thistle in my garden that looks a lot like what you have. Echinops Rido. But it already has some spines, and it's a rougher plant. Where is your plant? Could it be a garden escape? I'd like to hear what the "bigger goats" have to say though. I've always depended on the flowers to identify plants, as that's how my Peterson is organized.
