Nice to read your report, James. I've had singing males of many warbler spe=
cies here, some just passing through, but others seems to be on territory, =
including Blackburnian, Chestnut-sided, Black-throated Green, Yellow and th=
e early ones such as Yellow-rump, Redstart, Black-and-white and Palm).The f=
irst females just started showing up (not counting a pair of Common Yellowt=
hroats who seem to have found a nesting territory already). The Alder Flyca=
tchers are calling this morning as well as Pewee.

So sad to hear about the clear-cut. Devastating approach to forestry we hav=
e in Nova Scotia. In less than ten years it will be a good secondary growth=
patch, but meantime many species will arrive to find their home territory =
wiped out.

I believe that a lot of birds have just arrived on territory here in Lunenb=
urg County. =C2=A0Last night was the first real evidence of warblers at For=
t Point, LaHave other than yellow-rumped. =C2=A0There were=C2=A0two vocal y=
ellow warblers and a northern parula. =C2=A0I heard an American woodcock wi=
nnowing outside of my home and a veery calling, both of which were new. =C2=
=A0On my field trip on Saturday, where we had 56 species, most birds were n=
ot vocal at all. =C2=A0I had no ruby-crowned kinglets, which was disturbing=
. =C2=A0There was a group of least flycatchers and a yellow-bellied flycatc=
her together, which would denote that they just arrived. =C2=A0There was on=
ly one blackburnian warbler, when normally we would've had a number of thes=
e birds. =C2=A0One stop that was always very productive along the Fitch Roa=
d no longer exists. =C2=A0It has been clearcut. =C2=A0This was the traditio=
nal area that usually produced broad-winged hawk and eastern wood pewee, bo=
th of which were missed on Saturday. =C2=A0It was nice to see Canada warble=
r at three locations on the bright side of things.
