I should clarify that the stand to be clearcut is some distance from the =
swamp with the rusty blackbird. However, there will be plenty of other =
birds that will be nesting in the hardwood stand to be clearcut at Oak =
Lake if it takes place in the next couple of months. =20

=20

Sadly, the Migratory Birds Act does not get in the way of forestry =
unless we stand by the machines and point to the nests, so it seems. =
Little did we know 100 years ago that the biggest threat to migratory =
birds would not be shooting them for their feathers or destroying birds =
for some other cause (which the Act does seem to help), but rather it =
would be habitat loss, plain and simple. We can=E2=80=99t convince a =
bay-breasted warbler to forage in a clearcut. No way, no how.

Donna - Should you not alert DNR to stop the clearcut; Rusty blackbird =
breeding habitat being protected since it's a species at risk?

With kindest regards

Hi Nature folks:

I, too, received a great wall of emails today, repeating over and over, =
including one that I sent out. (I am growing tired of =E2=80=98my own =
self=E2=80=99!!)

=20

I have an Eastlink account. I=E2=80=99ve never experienced this happen =
before. I keep my virus scan up-to-date.

=20

Hopefully it will be resolved soon. Sorry.

=20

I listened to a rusty blackbird =E2=80=9Csinging=E2=80=9D in an alder =
swamp with a small flowing brook near Lake Paul at the corner of the =
road leading from the =E2=80=9Cfire road=E2=80=9D to Oak Lake. =20

=20

(I was visiting Oak Lake to see what it looks like before the large =
clearcut in this public forest begins. Very young oak trees and stands =
of white birch, all to be turned to chips for an unjustifiable cause =
from our little Oak Lake. There=E2=80=99s a nice picnic spot on the =
lake shore, and the road can be travelled by car if anyone wants to =
visit this lake. A brown creeper was singing from somewhere within the =
stand.)
