Good analysis by John Kearney; might be worth a formal account for NS Birds=
, if you are inclined, John.

Hi All,
I too noticed large numbers of American Robins the last few days. A drive f=
rom Yarmouth to Baccaro, yesterday February 18th, turned up numbers of robi=
ns along virtually every kilometer traveled that was close to the shoreline=
. My first thoughts were that our two storms this week brought the robins f=
rom more northern areas of Nova Scotia as coastal berry crops became covere=
d with snow and ice. Analysis of Nova Scotia eBird sightings for the past w=
eek indicated a very sharp increase of southern coastal sightings beginning=
on the 14th. That timing is consistent with, but a very fast, shift of rob=
ins from the north to the southern coast. However, it also coincides with a=
very strong cyclonic flow on the night of the 13th from a low right on the=
doorstep of Yarmouth. American Robins and other birds in southern New Engl=
and and the Mid-Atlantic states, especially any on Cape Cod, that got caugh=
t in this flow would have been whipped around the Gulf of Maine and deposit=
ed on Cape Sable Island and surrounding areas.
John

Same here at Martins Point John.
They are in the yard every day.
Must be coming from Newfoundland!
Perhaps there was a big crop of berries there.
Enjoy the late winter
Paul

They=92re still here, in much greater numbers than initially thought. The =
