Sorry, it was Randy Lauff n= ot Laugh who reported the Yellow-throated Warbler Sent from Mail<https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=3D550986> for Window= s 10 From: Keith Lowe<mailto:mythos25@live.com> Sent: December 14, 2016 9:34 PM To: Keith Lowe<mailto:mythos25@live.com> Subject: RE: [NatureNS] Update to the Blake Maybank Winter Bird List (173) Autocorrect, I=92m getting tired of your shirt! Of course it was Randy Lauf= f not Laugh who reported the Yellow-throated Warbler Keith Sent from Mail<https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=3D550986> for Window= s 10 From: Keith Lowe<mailto:mythos25@live.com> Sent: December 14, 2016 8:27 PM To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca<mailto:naturens@chebucto.ns.ca> Subject: [NatureNS] Update to the Blake Maybank Winter Bird List (173) We picked up 3 more species to bring us to 173 The new ones are: =95 Snowy Owl, only one person wrote about the discussion of includin= g the two (at least) that are in rehab, on the WBL but it was good as Ian = McLaren weighed in that he believes they should be counted. After Ian=92s e= mail I had the felling that I better double check the ABA rules and I disco= vered that I=92ve been operating under a false belief about a ABA rule all = along. There is also question about whether WBLs even follow ABA rules but = that is another discussion. For some reason I thought injured birds did not= qualify but I should have known better because I knew oiled birds were cou= nted. Here is the ABA rule in question: (ii) A wild bird that is injured, sick, oiled, or otherwise incapacitated m= ay be counted. So both Snowy Owls would have qualified as a sighting by the people = who found them and brought them to rehab. =95 Yellow-throated Warbler, found today by Randy Laugh at a feeder n= ear Bayfield, Antigonish Co. Now (11 out of 14 years) =95 Brant, found by Johnny Nickerson on CSI Here are some notables missing from the WBL so far: Missing species we have listed 19 or 20 times out of the last 20 years =95 Northern Shrike =95 White-crowned Sparrow =95 Common Redpoll =95 Ruddy Duck =95 Atlantic Puffin =95 Northern Saw-whet Owl =95 Eastern Meadowlark (last winter was our first miss on this in 20 = years) Missing species we have listed 16 =96 18 times out of the last 20 years =95 Lincoln Sparrow =95 Long-eared Owl (previously every year but MIA in 2 of the last 3 = years) Other notables missing so far =95 Snow Goose (13 year streak) =95 Redhead (12 of the last 14 years) =95 King Eider (previously fairly regular but MIA in the last 3 winte= rs) =95 American Bittern (last 9 out of 11 years) =95 White-rumped Sandpiper (previously near certain but only every 2 = or 3 years in the last decade) =95 Gyrfalcon (10 out of the last 12 but missed 2 of the last 4) =95 Carolina Wren (8 of the last 10 and has made the DoWL in 7 of tho= se years) DoWL =3D Depth of Winter List=97Observed in February =95 Varied Thrush (8 of the last 9 years) =95 Black-and-White Warbler (8 of the last 10 but missed 2 of the las= t 3 years) =95 Hoary Redpoll (7 out of last 11 years) =95 Field Sparrow (13 out of the last 15 years) www.nsbirdsociety.ca<http://www.nsbirdsociety.ca> /Library / Winter Birds Keith Lowe --_000_BN6PR13MB1284437C769A507E70F6DE78B09D0BN6PR13MB1284namp_ Content-Type: text/html; charset="Windows-1252" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html xmlns:o=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" xmlns:w=3D"urn:sc= hemas-microsoft-com:office:word" xmlns:m=3D"http://schemas.microsoft.com/of= fice/2004/12/omml" xmlns=3D"http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"> <head> <meta http-equiv=3D"Content-Type" content=3D"text/html; charset=3DWindows-1= 252"> <meta name=3D"Generator" content=3D"Microsoft Word 15 (filtered medium)"> <style><!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4;} @font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {mso-style-priority:99; color:blue; text-decoration:underline;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {mso-style-priority:99; color:#954F72; text-decoration:underline;} .MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only;} @page WordSection1 {size:612.0pt 792.0pt; margin:72.0pt 72.0pt 72.0pt 72.0pt;} div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;} --></style> </head> <body lang=3D"EN-CA" link=3D"blue" vlink=3D"#954F72"> <meta name=3D"Generator" content=3D"Microsoft Word 15 (filtered medium)"> <style><!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4;} @font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {mso-style-priority:99; color:blue; text-decoration:underline;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {mso-style-priority:99; color:#954F72; text-decoration:underline;} .MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only;} @page WordSection1 {size:612.0pt 792.0pt; margin:72.0pt 72.0pt 72.0pt 72.0pt;} div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;} --></style> <div class=3D"WordSection1"> <p class=3D"MsoNormal">Autocorrect, I=92m getting tired of your shirt!
