Hi All,
It was a great weekend on Brier Island.=C2=A0 My wife, kids and I arrived i=
n thick fog on Friday afternoon, but the winds shifted to north overnight a=
nd it was clear by morning.=C2=A0 Three woodcocks flushed from the road on =
the way to North Point before dawn, and once the sun rose the sky and trees=
 filled with warblers and Red-breasted Nuthatches.=C2=A0 Cape-mays were the=
most numerous warbler Sat morning, but there were plenty of other species =
around too.=C2=A0 Two other birders reported a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, but I=
 did not relocate it.
At Pond Cove on Saturday, there was an immature Baird's Sandpiper on the be=
ach in with Sanderlings, Semis, and Least Sandpipers at low tide.=C2=A0 The=
beach was busy though, and the group was flushed repeatedly by several dog=
s and people.=C2=A0 An immature Little Blue Heron was feeding in Big Pond n=
ear the duck blind.
I went out on the Mariner whale watching boat Saturday afternoon, and Ronni=
e d'Entremont was on board too with his family.=C2=A0 There were still seve=
ral thousand phalaropes out there, with a good mix of both species.=C2=A0 S=
ome flocks were mostly red, and others predominantly red-necked, but the la=
rgest flocks were too distant to identify.=C2=A0 There were plenty of Great=
Shearwaters and Gannets, but only one Sooty, one Wilson's Storm Petrel, an=
d two Razorbills as far as pelagics.=C2=A0 The whales put on a great show, =
with well over a dozen humpbacks, one Minke, lots of White-sided Dolphins, =
and a few Harbour Porpoises.
On Sunday morning at North Point, it was clear another flight had occurred =
and there were plenty of new warblers around and swarms of Red-breasted Nut=
hatches.=C2=A0 Ronnie found an immature female Hooded Warbler right away, a=
nd I was able to see it briefly a few minutes later.=C2=A0 There were still=
lots of Cape Mays, but Black-throated Greens and Redstarts were more numer=
ous.=C2=A0 Ronnie later found and photographed a Philadelphia Vireo along t=
he road to Pond Cove.
Later in the morning we took the boys to go see the banding operation, and =
Lance and company (and the birds!) were very accommodating.=C2=A0 It was gr=
eat for the kids to see so many birds up close in the hand.

That's it for now
