I will report details later, but I saw quite a few flocks of up = to 200+ peeps each =97 undoubtedly I double-counted some flocks and = individuals, but I can safely say I saw 500+ total peeps (small = sandpipers or plovers combined) and perhaps over 1000. Also at quite = distant range, I watched some very nice areobatic displays of the = flocks. Some of those displays looked to be evasive, i.e., very erratic = with frequent changes of direction, but I never saw any falcons (merlins = or peregrines)(merlins would have been hard to detect at the range of = hundreds of metres). >=20 > Today is very warm and humid, and, in addition to that discomfort, at = aroiund 4:45 p.m. on Wolfville=92s Main St. downtown, I was bitten by = the blackist and smallist deer fly I have ever seen! (identification = definite, but the fly did not survive the incident!). >=20 > After my beach walk and an ice-cream cone, I drove to the Leungs=92 = bald eagle nest on West Long Island, North Grand Pre. Both large = fledglings were present, but one of them was at the south edge of the = nest-tree, where I often see one of the adult eagles perched. It=92s = probably safe to say that these two =93fledglings=94 are now =93fledged=94= .
