A comprehensive summary of the changes can be found h= ere: http://blog.aba.org/2016/07/2016-aou-supplement.html There are no 'new' species or new common names that should impact Nova Scot= ia bird lists. The western scrub-jay is now split into California and Woodh= ouse's and two new species found off the western coast of Baja California h= ave been split off of Leach's Storm-Petrel. There have been a number of scientific name changes with a new genus (Arden= na) for a number of shearwater species, including sooty and great, and a ne= w genus (Antigone) for Sandhill Crane. There are also a number of changes a= t the subfamily level among the shorebirds. The change that may be noted the most is a reordering of families. Your nex= t field guide may be rearranged to show the following order between the gro= use family and the trogons: 1. flamingos 2. grebes 3. pigeons 4. cuckoos 5. goatsuckers and nighthawks 6. swifts and hummingbirds 7. cranes and rails 8. shorebirds, gulls, terns, auks 9. tropicbirds 10. loons 11. tubenoses 12. storks 13. gannets and boobies 14. pelicans, herons, ibises 15.
