Hi Eleanor,

You mentioned neighbours who have hummingbird feeders. Are they having the
same problem? If not, is it possible that their feeders have somehow enticed
the hummers in their direction?

Is it possible that some kind of predator occupies your property regularly?

Just some of my thoughts about your dilemma.

Best of luck,

John

Thanks to all for your responses! I realise I didn't make it clear that I've
been feeding hummers for several decades and am therefore very familiar with
their summer feeding patterns; what I am describing is completely new and
totally different from anything I have encountered before......

I will continue offering nectar all summer and looking for other possible
environmental issues (may consider getting a new feeder - but a trial with a
neighbour's feeder made no difference..........) If there is any riveting
resolution to this story, I will pass it on!!

Eleanor Lindsay
