Susan, yes to more butterflies (I am seeing Starlings grabbing Tiger =
Swallowtails from the air and and way fewer insects over all. We have =
swallows trying to bring their youngsters food and they are flying and =
flying, with no rest periods. Earlier there was little flying at all and =
I feared they would starve. I hope these young are getting a good =
start.=20

There seems to be a large number of caterpillars about. I watched last =
evening as I waited for Steve to get off work, at Milton DNR office they =
are everywhere. From what I could see most were tent but many of a =
second variety as well.=20
Marg White Point, Queens.=20

..............................................
Also notable were a good showing of butterflies and a lack of other =
flying insects - no black flies, and the only mosquitoes that bothered =
us were at a salt marsh in the early morning, where we went to hear =
Sora. Although the day became windy, there was no wind felt down at =
ground level in the woods. Are other birders noting this absence of =
insects?

Cheers,
Susann Myers
