While out on the veranda before dawn this morning I heard a Northern Saw Whet Owl tooting in the distance across the lake. It gave several short toot series (~10 toots/bout) then stopped. Surprised to hear one calling so late in the season. Perhaps a failed nester or immature? Nancy E Dalhousie, Kings Co.
