Bernice Moores, Sheila McCurdy and I spent the week on Seal Is., and were h=
elped by our host, Heather Jones, a promising birder and a sharp spotter. =
The winds alternated between NW and SW, with mainly sunny conditions. Altho=
ugh we managed to see 81 species, many common birds which were expected wer=
e absent. Numbers of each species were low, but generally were seen each da=
y, so it was always interesting.

Some of the sightings, with higher numbers on any one day, are noted:

Canada Goose, pr. with 5 goslings
Gadwall, 3 pr.
American Widgeon, 11, incl. 3 pr.
Northern Shoveler, pr.
Northern Pintail, pr.
Green-winged Teal, 4, incl. 1 pr.
Great Cormorant
Great Blue Heron, 7
Shorebirds, 6 species, incl. 20 Black-bellied Plover and 9 Short-billed Dow=
itcher
Black-headed Gull
Common Tern
Cuckoo, sp.
Merlin
Least Flycatcher
Red-eyed Vireo
Eastern Kingbird, 2
Tree Swallow, 6 pr.
Barn Swallow, 6 pr.
Northern Rough-winged Swallow, 2
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Winter Wren, 3, each on territory
Swainson's Thrush
Gray Catbird, 40 in one circuit! All over the Northend as well.
Northern Mockingbird
Warblers, 11 species, including 2 male Bay-breasted
White-crowned Sparrow, 2
Summer Tanager, first spring female
Rose-breasted Grosbeak, 6
Blue Grosbeak, 1 female
Indigo Bunting, 2 males
Painted Bunting, 1 female, seen for four days hanging out with the Indigo B=
untings
Orchard Oriole, male
Baltimore Oriole, 3
