Small movements of birds were apparent on the Caribou and Portland, Maine, weather radars on the nights of 24, 26, and 29 April. On 30 April there was a strong migration at both sites. On that night, winds were very light (<10 km/hr) over the Bay of Fundy and Gulf of Maine from surface to 1,500 meters so conditions were good for crossing from Maine/New Brunswick to Nova Scotia. The records on eBird indicated significant increases overnight of Yellow-rumped Warblers and Savannah Sparrows; and small increases for Palm Warblers and Ruby-crowned Kinglets. The acoustic monitoring station at Carleton, Yarmouth County, had the most night flight calls of the season on the night of 30 April with 11 calls. There were a total of 28 night flight calls for the week, a number that is not untypical for April. The table below summaries the results of acoustic monitoring for this week. Reports for the season can be found at: http://www.johnfkearney.com/Carleton_YarmouthCounty_2016.html.
