This morning while walking my backyard, I heard the chitter of Tree Swallows and realized they were over the field looking for my nest boxes which were still in storage. Quickly, I put them up and as I lowered the first pole in the hole, a swallow flew onto the box. As I walked away, it was clinging to the hole and doing its initial examination. Five minutes after the second box was up, another pair were examining it. Hopefully, we well get two successful nesting this year. Last year, one of my boxes had no nest material in it at all. Later in the day, as I was pedalling down Rt 221 east of Woodville (Kings Co), a Red Fox trotted onto the road ahead of me. I was gradually catching up with it (it did not seem to know I was there) when a car passed me and scared it into the ditch. This is the first fox I have seen in our area in decades.
