Last Sunday April 17, my wife and I discovered a small garter snake on the =
former CN railway about half way between the former Hogg Road (Regent Stree=
t) and Ellis Road crossings, just south of Yarmouth.

Back when I were a sprout in the =E2=80=9860=E2=80=99s, first sightings of =
snakes (always garter snakes with the rare red-bellied exception) was prett=
y consistently between May 20 and the end of the month. And I was a lot mo=
re assiduous about looking for snakes, in those days.

More evidence of climate change?

Subject: [NatureNS] Blue Butterflies and Stoneflies.

Hi All

Yesterday being such a beautiful day, it prompted a friend and I

to make our first Keji visit of the year. We went to the Eil Weir

to enjoy a little fishing but not much catching1

However its always an enjoyable spot. Some of the staff came around

and were able to tell us of the interesting projects they do. Other anglers=

provide insight to the state of the universe.

Some little Blue Butterflies were around - Blue Azures I think they are cal=
led.

First time I saw them this year. The Stoneflies are very plentiful. sitting=
at the base of a tree

and looking up towards the sun to the tree tops - when a gust of wind went =
by - it would shake

the tree top and clouds of them would make halos with the sun reflecting fr=
om

their wings. There was no small birds but the table is set when they arrive=
=2E

Little midges were plentiful also but they don't bite! I think they like th=
e

Stoneflies are inhabitants of the river until they are adults. A good hatch=

of both this year.

A great day

Enjoy Spring

Paul
