We have two additions to the DoWL which brings our total to 147

Winter Wren

Short-eared Owl (Nice to get this one in because it would have been a =
rare miss)

=20

Aside from our recent week of unusually cold weather, our February has =
been rather mild and downright spring-like compared to last February. =
But as with our overall winter bird list, it appears our DoWL is also =
going to fall short of last year=E2=80=99s total (202) and average =
(147). The number of ducks seems to be one of the most obvious groups =
that is down this winter, presumably because they have many more options =
from the lack of ice. But we did well on ducks, we got all the species =
on to the DoWL that we normally get. One might think that we would get =
more sparrows from a milder February, but no they are the biggest reason =
we=E2=80=99re going to fall short on our DoWL. We usually get =
White-crowned Sparrow, Field Sparrow and Dickcissel. Also, unless they =
come in under the wire, Carolina Wren, Brown Thrasher and =
Wilson=E2=80=99s Snipe will be uncommon misses to the DoWL.

MIA Core Species

The following are the species we get every year (they are allowed 1 miss =
in the last 18 years) which we do not have on our WBL yet.

=20

Eastern Meadowlark

=20

Needed 9/10 out 10 Years Species

The following are the non-core species which have made the WBL 9 or 10 =
out of the last 10 winters which we do not have yet.

=20

Blue-winged Teal

Redhead

Gyrfalcon

House Wren

=20

=20

Needed 8 out 10 Years Species

The following are the species which have made the WBL 8 out of the last =
10 winters which we do not have yet.

=20

Carolina Wren

Black-and-white Warbler

Yellow-throated Warbler

=20

=20

Needed 7 out 10 Years Species=20

We=E2=80=99ve cleaned the slate on these ones.

=20

=20

=20

Winter Bird List (WBL) runs from Dec 1 =E2=80=93 to Feb 29

=20

Depth of Winter List (DoWL) is February only
