A Red-tailed Hawk was chased into my backyard, here in Dartmouth (Glenwood Ave) by some crows.
I caught the action and grabbed my camera.
It sought shelter up in a tree in my backyard.
Shortly, there after, the hawk, suddenly, swooped down to my large wire mesh sunflower seed feeder, where it appeared to have caught a talon, as it struggled and flapped around. I called my neighbour, Robie Cooper, threw on my coat/hat mitts; and headed out back with a blanket, in case the hawk needed assistance.
It was on the ground, with it's wings spread out. It seemed alert but once it saw me, it flew off, the crows in pursuit.
It was then that I saw the dead squirrel!
Both Robie & I decided to just leave it there for the crows, or whatever.
After I went back inside & not 15 minutes later, the Red-tailed Hawk returned to collect its bounty & enjoy its Valentine's Day lunch!
Certainly, not a common sight here in downtown/residential Dartmouth, anyway!!

Cheers!

Gayle MacLean
