As Dave knows, Kentville has several locations where grey squirrels =
(either grey or black) are often seen, occasionally in groups up to five =
(family?): near Catholic church along upper Belcher St. + nearby at =
Miner=92s Marsh; around Kentville Agric. Research Stn.; at and near the =
Valley Regional Hospital; Dave=92s neighbourhood; etc.

I have been keeping/compiling sightings/records of grey squirrels in The =
Valley especially (Wolfville & Canning west to Granville Ferry) for =
quite a few years, and I only have one record of a photographed fox =
squirrel for Nova Scotia =97 I think it was at Parker=92s Cove near =
Annapolis Royal, going from memory, and over 10 years ago, and I don=92t =
recall whether a photo(s) was confirmed as really being a fox squirrel.

The N.S. grey squirrels seem to be coexisting with our native red =
squirrels, with occasional or frequent chases. But the European red =
squirrel is a completely different kind of mammal, closely related to =
the non-native grey squirrels, which carry a virus that is very nasty to =
fatal to those European red squirrels. I don=92t know anything about =
the distribution of that virus and what effect it might have on our =
native red squirrels here.

zipping up a Black Cherry tree on the adjacent lot so this area seems to =
be home base now.. The tree also has much Five-fingered Ivy up to or =

too large to be a Grey Squirrel & I am wondering if Fox Squirrels are =
sold or kept as pets and whether confirmed sightings have been reported.
