Never stop sifting and sharing, Dave. You contribute a lot.

And while we may not always see eye to eye on every issue (What two people =
ever do?), it=E2=80=99s very important to be able to agree to disagree, ami=
cably and respectfully! J

Hi Nick & All, Jan 8, 2016

With respect to your first paragraph you know perfectly well that good =
hardwood was in fact harvested for this purpose; foolish and destructive as=
it surely was. For expansion of this see my e-mail of Mar 1, 2015. At leas=
t now, so I understand, some quality logs are being set aside but the overa=
ll operation, as I understand it, is far removed from acceptable.

That mess was generated as a consequence of the usual; good intensions =
gone wrong. "acting for our financial well-being" was not part of the plann=
ing equation. But without doubt the harvesters were acting for their financ=
ial well-being.

The necessary ingredients for good resource management are open minds, =
unbiased information, foresight, timely fine tuning and freedom from emotio=
nal obstruction fueled by misinformation.

Sifting through the huge "information" dunghill and extracting those sp=
arse brown pearls of wisdom is a valid activity on Naturens and is one majo=
r reason why I am here. It is a huge learning opportunity and a forum in wh=
ich those brown pearls can perhaps become less brown.

Yt, Dave Webster, Kentville

Oh Jim, no one would be so stupid as to put good forest into a burner elec=
troconvetrer losing 70% of its energy in conversion and that calcium and h=
abitat from the forest floor.

Now, there are ways to grow biomass but that too needs habitat planning.

It sounds as if the Nova Scotia naturalists ..nature NS ..should take a sta=
nd on how and when to use biomass before what is important to us is further=
threatened by those who say they are acting for our financial well-being. =
While this may be so, indiscriminate conversion of foresy biomass would be =
doing our kids a disservice.

Nick

You lost me at:
"Biomass, from forest or otherwise, is one potential way to reduce carbon f=
ootprint so I think every effort should be made to foster and expand this a=
s quickly as possible."

I'm hoping you meant storing Carbon in biomass by leaving forests intact ra=
ther than burning them...?

But I fear not.

With kindest regards
