y named Sandra --_000_SN1PR0301MB20458B8F61FA0570B3E0F02283020SN1PR0301MB2045_ Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Orange neck collars are used on Canada Geese from the northern part of the = Mississippi flyway (on the Canadian prairies, roughly speaking) and on some= from the Eastern Arctic. The critical feature to note is the alphanumeric = code on the collar, which is distinctive to area. All the neck-collared geese that I have seen through the years in the Truro= area have had yellow collars and a code that pins them down specifically t= o West Greenland. So the orange-collared birds seen on the South Shore are = unlikely to have come from Truro/Shubenacadie. Without the code, it is anyb= ody's guess where they originated. ________________________________ From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca <naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca> on beha= lf of James Hirtle <jrhbirder@hotmail.com> Sent: November 27, 2015 10:00 PM To: Naturens Naturens Subject: RE: [NatureNS] Canada Geese with Neck Bands Hi Eric and all: The neck bands on the geese were orange.
