Even after birding for a long time I get confused sometimes. Taking Photogr=
aphs of birds tends to mess with my head and I second guess myself every no=
w and then. Let me explain what happened. I intially called the goldeneye=
as a full Barrow's. I then noticed that the head had a purple gloss from =
the photo. Under most lighting I've seen the majority of Barrow's as havin=
g a black or bluish=2C rather than purple head. So I went to my Sibley Gui=
de to Birds first edition=2C first printing October 2000. I look at the Ba=
rrow's and under not heavy lighting it looks like Sibley has the head depic=
ted as blue=2C with a photo of a cross/hybrid underneath with a purple head=
. So I thus jumped to the wrong conclusion. Sibley in the guide by the wa=
y has the Barrow's head shown as green when looking at it under good lighti=
ng=2C which is totally wrong. All other guides that I reference depict the=
head as black or with a purple gloss. =20

The Barrow's goldeneye was found at Green Bay today in one of the ponds rig=
ht beside the road. The last place I expected to find one. =20

I definitely saw a field sparrow along Bell Road in Dublin Shore. I tried t=
o get a photo=2C but the bird flew to a different location even before I wa=
s fully out of the car or could attempt to get a documentary shot. I photo=
graphed a bird that popped up from where I thought the field sparrow went=
=2C but that bird was actually a winter plumaged chipping sparrow. =20
