Hi all

All are welcome to the Pictou Co. Naturalist's presentation on Tues. Oct =
6 at 6:30 pm in the community room of the New Glasgow library. Guest =
speaker will be our regional Dept. of Natural Resources biologist, =
Shavonne Meyer, and her topic will be Wildlife and Wildlife Habitat =
Management in Crown Land Forestry: From allocation of a crown land =
"blob" to planning an actual harvest job.=20

Shavonne Meyer is a Regional Wildlife Biologist with the Department of =
Natural Resources. She joined the Department three years ago after =
working on Species at Risk for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources =
and Fisheries and Oceans Canada. In her duties as Regional Biologist, =
Shavonne provides input on how to mitigate the effects of proposed =
activities on wildlife and wildlife habitat, conducts wildlife surveys =
and biological collections, works on human-wildlife conflict issues, and =
contributes to policy development and implementation.

Many people have strong feelings one way or the other on this issue so =
this is a great opportunity to see how the department deals with =
forestry issues on crown land and maybe a chance to air your views. =
Please come on out and bring a friend!

Note our November talk will not be at the usual time or place but on =
Sunday October 25 at the McCulloch House Museum 100 Haliburton Rd, =
Pictou where Dr. Eric Mills will be the guest speaker for the Darby =
Lecture. The talk will be ORNITHOLOGY- THOMAS MCCULLOCH'S 19 CENTURY =
BIRD COLLECTION. The presentation will start at 2:00 pm. More on this =
later=20

Our December talk will feature the Status of Striped Bass in northern =
NS. Details are still being worked out on date and location so watch for =
further announcements.=20

cheers
Ken
