One of my favorite birds. We see them from time to time in Florida, usually
out in the Savannahs in the orange groves where they hunt on foot, but
also at road kill. An interesting characteristic is their place in the food
chain. We have seen them chase black vultures and turkey vultures (buzzards)
away from a kill even though they are smaller.in size. The other birds hang
back until the caracara has finished. There was a buzzard soaring between
exits 3 and 4 on the 103 yesterday.

Stan has advised me that the highway should have been 360 instead of 301,
and that he saw it cross the highway just south of Somerset Friday a.m.
I did some searching on Saturday without luck, but there are many places it
could be hiding. This is almost certainly the one reported 15 and 17
Sept. at Dempsey Corner.

Hello everybody
Just a note, I was driving my bus to Somerset NS this morning and saw
what looked like a Bald Eagle but has I got closer the bird had a white head
and a lot of white on the back end, When I got home I did a search on line
and found that it was a Northern crested caracara. I was heading north on
highway 301 and the bird flew across the road heading west.

       Stan
