We see them from time to time in Florida, usually out in the Savannahs in the orange groves where they hunt on foot, but also at road kill. An interesting characteristic is their place in the food chain. We have seen them chase black vultures and turkey vultures (buzzards) away from a kill even though they are smaller.in size. The other birds hang back until the caracara has finished. There was a buzzard soaring between exits 3 and 4 on the 103 yesterday. Peter Stow Hubbards In a message dated 2015-09-27 1:15:44 A.M. This is almost certainly the one reported 15 and 17 Sept. at Dempsey Corner. Wayne P. Neily Tremont, Kings Co., Nova Scotia "In wildness is the preservation of the world." - Henry D. I was heading north on highway 301 and the bird flew across the road heading west.
