This small Alder was humming with many hovering Wasps and could be heard from about 50'. The Wasps must have been attracted to the many sticky, white colonies on its branches but none seemed to be landing and feeding on them. This was the only infested Alder I noted along the road: https://www.flickr.com/photos/92981528@N08/21362221466/in/dateposted-public/ A closer view of one of the colonies and some of its inhabitants: https://www.flickr.com/photos/92981528@N08/20765797624/in/dateposted-public/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/92981528@N08/21200610888/in/dateposted-public/ The two common white cottony infestations I see in guides are Psylla floccosa - Cottony Alder Psyllids and Woolly Alder Aphids- Prociphilus tessallatus. Which would this be? It looks like adult and larval aphids and scale-type insects are both present in the photo above. Are the aphids feeding on the sugary Psyllid excretions or is this all one species? And do Wasps actually feed on this sweet offering as they do at HB feeders? Thanks for any info, Nancy
