All, I'm wondering how many on NatureNS know about and are using the new iNaturalist.ca website? I managed to stumble across it yesterday while doing a web search to find out if there are other Nova Scotia records for the Calyptra canadensis moth that I posted a photo of a couple of days ago. Anyhow, what a terrific website for Canadian naturalists! I can't imagine how I didn't know about it before this. The site is the Canadian branch of iNaturalist.org. The Canadian site has been online since June 11, 2015, so it's still relatively new. I joined and put up a profile yesterday and have added about 15 of my very recent nature observations. Now that I've seen how well the site works, I'll be adding many more from the past. You can access the site using your web browser, but they also have apps that will run on Apple or Android phones and tablets (I believe those are ready now). You'll find that there are many ways to use the website - for recordings individual observations, or creating a "place" where observations can be added to show what exists at that location. You can search for species observations made by others. There is the capability of making journal entries. Lots more that can be done. It is seamlessly linked to the iNaturalist.org site, so if you are looking for records on a species that is in both the U.S. and Canada, the records for both will appear during searches. I've been hoping for something like this for years and here it is!
