Beach, 2 big eaglets still = in nest Date: July 24, 2015 at 12:49:11 PM ADT To: Nature BNS <nature@blomidonnaturalists.ca> Cc: Pam Mills <millspl@gov.ns.ca>, Kimberley Huskins <HUSKINKD@gov.ns.ca>, = Mark Elderkin <elderkmf@gov.ns.ca> JULY 23, 2015 - EVANGELINE BEACH =E2=80=94 high tide at about 7 p.m. (ampli= tude only 9.4 metres) =E2=80=94 With the tide coming in, I walked east from= the public stairs and observation platform, starting at 4:25 p.m., taking = about a half-hour to get to the Merks home near the east end of the beach, = and walking back for another half-hour, with lots of stopping and scanning = for shorebirds =E2=80=94 sky was mostly overcast, lighting good, nice cool = wind from the west, and warm temperature but not hot =E2=80=94 I saw absolu= tely zero shorebirds =E2=80=94 my only notable bird was a great blue heron = (parent?) flying very low from the direction of Boot Island, where they nes= t, toward the west. After my walk I drove to the Leungs=E2=80=99 home and bald eagle nest on We= st Long Island =E2=80=94 in the nest I could see two large birds that were = lying down and facing away from me, undoubtedly fledglings =E2=80=94 Jean L= eung told me several days ago that all three fledglings were now flying abo= ut.
