Camping here was closed some= years ago=2C which at least reduces the fire danger=2C and it is seen main= ly (both by the public and the government as far as I can tell) as a picnic= area. As with most of the smaller Provincial Parks=2C the boundaries are= unclear=2C and there seems to be little attention to ecological protection= or interpretation. I think of the mature red pine (Pinus resinosa) fores= t as the climax stage of these sand "barrens"=2C and Clairmont PP has likel= y the best surviving stand of these . Much of the unit was lost in the co= nstruction of highway 101 through it=2C and in a recent housing development= in east Kingston. Still earlier=2C large areas were lost to the construct= ion of the Greenwood air base. I am glad to hear of the interest in protec= ting more of this - perhaps Provincial Parks will take note. =0A= Wayne P.
