Hi Pat

When did you have the field trip at Amherst? I didn't see any information
about it anywhere?? Would like to know what birds were sighted, etc as I am
planning to visit it real soon. Thanks

Liz

Chris:

Is this the East Amherst Marsh? If so, what time did you get there? I lead a
birding trip Sunday morning for the NatureNS/NatureNB AGM event and we had
great views of a pair of bitterns right at the last parking area just as we
were leaving. I wonder if what you heard was more of a "keeping in touch"
call rather that a "this is my territory" call…

  Hi everyone,

Today I was at the Amherst Marsh. On two occasions I heard a one
syllable sound coming from the marsh that sounded like “Oong-K"

The American Bittern is known for making an “Oong-KA-chunk” sound. What
I heard sounded like just the first syllable as I said which sounded like
“Oong-K” The tone sounded like a Bittern from the one syllable. I’m aware
of what a bull frog sounds like
and it wasn’t a bull frog.

Question : Do American Bitterns do a single “Oong-K” sound? I want to
know the answer before I enter these two American Bitterns on E-bird.
