Hi All,
Pine Siskins and other finches are considered diurnal migrants. So in going
through my spring nocturnal recordings, I was surprised to discover a
nocturnal movement of Pine Siskins throughout the entire night over Amherst
on the night of April 16-17. About 70 Pine Siskins were heard during this
period. I have, so far, found only 3 other documented cases of nocturnal
migration of Pine Siskins. However, I suspect it has been largely overlooked
in the past since few people, until recently, have been monitoring nocturnal
migration.
