Index of Subjects ------=_Part_3420986_1408029783.1431224087475 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable My "resident woodcock" has been here faithfully every spring for the past f= ive years. =C2=A0Usually the first of April. =C2=A0This year he showed up a= couple times in early April, I spotted him at dusk and put out worms in a = tray of soil. =C2=A0I think he did eat there, then the weather worsened for= a while, with cold cold nights. =C2=A0I spotted him again a week later, he= came back and started to call for a while then left, and the next night to= call and do a few flight displays, but I have not heard a peep from him si= nce. =C2=A0 He always chose the very same spot of pasture to call from, and just as the= snow was disappearing he also disappeared. =C2=A0I fear something got him = or he just died from the effort of trying to survive those early days after= travelling all the way here. =C2=A0Very sad for me not to hear his familia= r call and enjoy watching the mating flights. =C2=A0Spring is not the same.= =C2=A0Sadly many others have met the same fate I'm sure of it. =C2=A0No do= ubt there are some still carrying on and will make a comeback if the next y= ears bring fairly normal Winter and Spring. =C2=A0 I was wondering how long woodcocks live. =C2=A0"My" woodcock may have been = old for a woodcock by that time. =C2=A0Does anyone know?
