I heard a single peeper along same= road 2 days ago but there was a beginning chorus there this evening. Rick ferguson, Emily Gillis(Kendell) and I ran the Lorne to Landsdowne owl r= oute last night may 1. Although it is as 14C when we left town it was 4C at s= tart and -1C at end of survey. This is the latest date I remember running th= e route. Despite this we heard no frogs at all. The evening was quite bright= with a full moon and there was a little wind on 3 of the middle stops.=20 We tallied 3 Barred Owls and a single Great Horned Owl. At one stop 2 Barred Owls flew in and called right beside the car. Always a great thrill.=20 We also heard 9 Woodcock and a single snipe as well as a few coyotes and saw 3 porcupines. Missed having Em= ily's father Charlie with us this year but it was great to have Emily along f= or her first full route.=20 Cheers Ken=20 Ken McKenna Box 218 =20 Stellarton NS B0K 1S0 > On May 3, 2015, at 7:51 PM, Angus MacLean <cold_mac@hotmail.com> wrote: >=20 > On a walk this evening along the RR bed in Coldbrook, there were quite a f= ew Wood Frogs warming up in a pond.
