--047d7bea3afe21bd2105152250ab Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 I birded from Schooner Pond to Glace Bay during the middle of the day (Saturday 02 May 2015). There was little ice off the coast except from Glace Bay towards Dominion. There were hundreds, even thousands of ducks offshore everywhere. The majority were Common Eiders. Everywhere I looked out to sea I could see hundreds of Common Eiders. There were also hundreds of Black Scoters. Most places I looked out to sea there were lots of Black Scoters. In much smaller numbers were Surf Scoter, Long-tailed Duck, Common Goldeneye, Red-breasted Merganser and a few White-winged Scoter. Another highlight was 12 Harlequin Ducks off Cape Perce at Schooner Pond. I have seen Harlequins here before, but not 12 together. There were also 15 Razorbills off Cape Perce, a couple of hundred Northern Gannets and lots of Black-legged Kittiwake near Flint Island. A surprise was a Common Murre off the harbour mouth at Glace Bay. Most of the Iceland (Kumlien's) Gulls have moved north and most of those remaining are immatures. More than 100 were still around Glace Bay harbour as well as a dozen or so in a couple of other locations. Lists have been submitted to eBird.
