These counts will take place at my new spring hawk watching site which is just a few meters off a Highway 1 access road in Charlotte County. Here is what we can expect. Large movements of Broad-winged Hawks. Daily counts are likely to be in the hundreds with sightings of kettles, streams and the stuff that comes with big Broad-wing days. Little is known of spring flights around here, but I wouldn't be surprised to see as many as 500 hawks counted in a day. In addition to the Broad-wings, we can expect to see most of our resident raptor species as they move back into the province. Local raptors include lots of vultures, eagles, osprey, a Sharp-shin and some Broad-wings. Some of the birds will likely be displaying, which is always interesting to observe. If these big flights do occur. And they almost certainly will, I could use some help spotting birds. So, drop me a note if you have interest.
