I just got my grinder and bought a bag of Birds & Beans medium roast so I'll be trying them both right after I post this. I suspect the uncertified bird-friendly blends from Sissiboo would have to be second and perhaps JustUS blends would be third? From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca [mailto:naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca] On Behalf Of James Churchill Sent: Wednesday, April 29, 2015 1:38 PM To: naturens Subject: Re: [NatureNS] Birds & Beans coffee at Organic Earth Market We had some Birds and Beans Certified Bird Friendly Coffee this weekend at the citizen science expo which was so fresh and flavourful that my wife is now hooked also. David Pritchard, prez of Birds and Beans, is really excited about all the interest that is being shown out here. He was excellent to deal with and even paid for express shipping to get it to NS in time for our event. Having this now available in NS is a great step; now is a great time to be thinking about how we can be promoting this... As a side note, I think we should be taking this opportunity to rate the spectrum of coffees available in NS in terms of their impact on (or benefits to) birds. Although Bird Friendly Certified is likely the most beneficial to birds, organic and fair trade products still probably rate much lower, in terms of impacts on birds, than do products that are not. What would be valuable is a rating system that helps people to make the optimal decision when given a choice between Tim Horton's, McDonalds, Laughing Whale, JustUs!, T.A.N, Folgers and Starbucks. Knowing these differences might also help influence demand. Seafood folks have done a good job at doing this type of thing to help people make wiser seafood choices - (e.g., http://www.seachoice.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/SC_card_2012_5panel_web. pdf). I'd like to see one for coffee put forth by some of the strong voices in the NS bird world... cheers, On Wed, Apr 29, 2015 at 12:32 PM, <katefsteele@gmail.com <mailto:katefsteele@gmail.com> > wrote: That is wonderful news! I may get there later today to see if Organic Earth Market has it on the shelf yet. Thanks to everyone else who contacted them too. "I have some good news - late last week we sent the initial shipment of coffee to the Organic Earth Market - it should be there and available to purchase now. It is my understanding that they received a number of requests from people - so thank you very much for your effort. They seem to be a really good choice of a partner for us. We are excited to be there and look forward to working with them to promote Bird Friendly coffee in Halifax." -- James Churchill Kentville, Nova Scotia jameslchurchill@gmail.com <mailto:jameslchurchill@gmail.com> (902) 681-2374 ------=_NextPart_000_00B0_01D082B1.05578B30 Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html xmlns:v=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" = xmlns:o=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" = xmlns:w=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word" = xmlns:m=3D"http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2004/12/omml" = xmlns=3D"http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"><head><meta = http-equiv=3DContent-Type content=3D"text/html; = charset=3Dus-ascii"><meta name=3DGenerator content=3D"Microsoft Word 15 = (filtered medium)"><style><!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4;} @font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4;} @font-face {font-family:Tahoma; panose-1:2 11 6 4 3 5 4 4 2 4;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {mso-style-priority:99; color:blue; text-decoration:underline;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {mso-style-priority:99; color:purple; text-decoration:underline;} span.EmailStyle17 {mso-style-type:personal-reply; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; color:#1F497D;} .MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-fareast-language:EN-US;} @page WordSection1 {size:612.0pt 792.0pt; margin:72.0pt 72.0pt 72.0pt 72.0pt;} div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;} --></style><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:shapedefaults v:ext=3D"edit" spidmax=3D"1026" /> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:shapelayout v:ext=3D"edit"> <o:idmap v:ext=3D"edit" data=3D"1" /> </o:shapelayout></xml><![endif]--></head><body lang=3DEN-CA link=3Dblue = vlink=3Dpurple><div class=3DWordSection1><p class=3DMsoNormal><span = style=3D'font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:#1F497D;= mso-fareast-language:EN-US'>That’s great.
