I saw winter aconite in bud early in March as snow started to pull away from
the house, only to be covered again. No harm done, however, and it is now
on the wane. Crocuses appear to be leaking/have peaked and snowdrops passed
theirs last week, I'd say.

All this from south of Yarmouth, where little snow remains in exposed areas.

In our garden, there is a sudden burst of flowers that
usually appear

o

ver

the span of

a few weeks:

Winter aconite, Snowdrop, Crocus, Spring Snowflake (Leucojum vernum)

The blooming begins wherever the snow disappears,

regardless of species.

While at the Historic Farmers' Market at the Brewery yesterday morning (18
April) in downtown Halifax, I saw a fine display of Coltsfoot in bloom. The
plants were on the east-facing gravel bank below Hollis Street, at the edge
of the Brewery's Bishop Street parking lot. The first I've seen in bloom
this year - much later than usual.
