--001a113d29eef9fb950513b5b1d3 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 The 2nd Rusty Blackbird Spring Migration Blitz starts TOMORROW and ends mid-May in Nova Scotia! This is your chance to go birding, enjoy spring migration, and contribute to citizen science! The Rusty Blackbird has experienced one of the most dramatic population declines of all songbird species; an estimated 85-99% over the past 40 years. The Rusty Blackbird Spring Migration Blitz is a three-year effort to better understand the habits and habitat preferences of this species during their migration northward, as well as to engage those with an interest in nature in the plight of this species. *It is easy to participate! *Target habitat that you think might be favoured by Rusty Blackbirds (wet areas: forested swamps, ponds, lake edges, ditches, areas where blackbirds congregate), and go birding! Whether you see Rusty Blackbirds or not, submit your sightings to eBird.org under the Rusty Blackbird Spring Migration Blitz protocol (under Observation Type, click Other and choose Rusty Blackbird Spring Migration Blitz from the drop down menu). It's that easy! For more information on Rusty Blackbirds, the Spring Migration Blitz, and help with how to submit your data on eBird.org, visit the Nova Scotia Bird Society website: http://nsbirdsociety.ca/index.php/volunteer/rusty-blackbird-spring-migration-blitz or http://rustyblackbird.org/outreach/migration-blitz/ You can also follow the Rusty Blackbird Spring Migration Blitz on Facebook to hear about sightings, see Rusty pictures, and get the latest Blitz news: https://www.facebook.com/rustyblackbirdspringblitz If you find Rusty Blackbirds, but are unable to enter your data into eBird, I can submit it for you. If anyone has any questions, I would be happy to answer them both on or off-list.
