nteresting, from a local perspective, anyway.<o:p&g --_5a71cf2d-60cb-489f-8df6-8b7cd3462eaf_ Content-Type: text/plain; charset="Windows-1252" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable John=2C =20 Another thing to consider might be the dark morph Rough-legged Hawk that I'= ve seen a few times around the Sunday Pt Rd which is a few kms south of tha= t church. I believe it has also been seen at the northern end of Yarmouth H= arbour. A dark morph bird has a similar underwing pattern as a Turkey Vultu= re and can show a dihedral wing position. I guess it all depends on just ho= w long-tailed your bird was.=20 =20 Here is a video of a Rough-legged showing it flapping and then gliding as i= t moves (it is also shown hovering at times). =20 http://youtu.be/R6kw_wZmcpc =20 --- =20 Alix Arthur d'Entremont BSc Geomatics Engineering 292 Abbott's Harbour Road Middle West PubnicoYarmouth Co.=2C Nova ScotiaCanada B0W 2M0 Phone: +1 902 762 2082Mobile: +1 902 307 0373 =0A= e-mail: alixdentremont@hotmail.com =0A= Bird Photography http://www.flickr.com/photos/alixd/ Bird Documentation Photos http://www.flickr.com/photos/130170873@N08/Blog h= ttp://alixdentremont.blogspot.ca/ =20 From: nhungjohn@eastlink.ca To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca Subject: [NatureNS] Turkey Vulture/ Goshawk? Date: Sun=2C 29 Mar 2015 18:02:43 -0300 Hans=2C you=92ve reminded me of a sighting of a large raptor cruising over = south end Yarmouth about 11 A.M. on Friday morning. I was beside Temple Ba= ptist church and looking west=2C when a large guy soaring dihedrally passed= apparently over the old Anglican cemetery=2C maybe about 1000 feet to the = southeast. My initial thought was =93turkey vulture=2C=94 this being Yarmo= uth. Then I noticed the tail was too long and the flying included some fla= p-flap glide=2C particularly as it turned to the north of me and flew east.= The distance and the light kept me from seeing any colour=2C but if I got= the distance right=2C only a goshawk could be that size and shape. Down = here=2C that is more exciting than turkey vultures!
