Hi all

I received an emailed newsletter from Audubon earlier this afternoon =
and noted an article on Piping Plover "Over-wintering Plovers Make =
News". I clicked on the Read More link which took me to another link =
-solved the mystery. The shortcut to this point is below. The article is =
a couple years old, Dec 2012, but contains great info on wintering =
grounds for many of our nesting Atlantic Piping Plovers on Bahamas' =
Joulter Cays.

Early in the article I see mention of Hardy Eshbaugh who has studied =
plant life on nearby Bahamas' Andros Island. Many will know Hardy from =
his property on the St Mary's River in Waternish near Sherbrooke, =
Guysborough. who made a wonderful donation of property to the NS Nature =
Trust this past summer. The Joulter Cays are somewhat newly discovered =
(~5 yr) as a plover wintering grounds and is very important in the =
life cycle of Piping Pipers that have nested in Atlantic Canada (and =
USA Atlantic coast). I highly recommend reading the article and note =
Hardy's concern about an alien shrub Scaevola taccada (white inkberry) =
and the invasive exotic the Australian pine (Casuarina equisetifolia) =
which is making a foothold in many of the sandy areas the plovers rest =
in at high tide.=20

There is also a link to an 8 min. video, a PBS news report which =
highlights some of the local issues. Not hard to look at a tropical =
video after a day of snow shovelling!. =
