I once saw a junco in the froze position. I kept an eye on it and it was th= ere so long I thought it was literally frozen, as the weather was very cold= . =C2=A0It was there for half an hour. =C2=A0I went outside to see what I c= ould make of it, then I spied a shrike in a nearby tree. =C2=A0The junco th= en took off and the shrike behind it and I then ran after the them. =C2=A0T= he junco headed into the woods and I don't know what happened then. I was s= o sorry that I went outside. =C2=A0Though there have been other cases of a = bird in need, such as frozen onto something (the feet must have been wet) w= here it was the thing to do. =C2=A0In general though, best to assume as you= did, and see what happens. =C2=A0If it was there for an hour I think I'd h= ave to investigate somehow though. =C2=A0A cautionary tale! Suddenly in flew another chickadee and it began to taunt the hawk an= d=20 chattering and peeping it seemed to encourage the other to do the same. The= y=20 moved through a real tangle and and right up behind the hawk, then in front, dropping back into the heavy= =20 tangle. Hawk was really taking notice of all this and began trying to grab= =20 one or the other. Chickadee #2 flew straight out out of sight with the hawk= =20 after it. No. 1 Chickadee was back to being frozen.=C2=A0 I went to the win= dow on=20 the other side of the house and could see nothing so returned to the kitche= n=20 and there were two bird frozen and the hawk booting it across the front yar= d=20 after? nothing I could see.
