Bev and Nick your essays are great. They should be chapters in a book on
the importance of managing resources sustainably.

I spent most of my working life involved in Third World aquaculture and
fisheries development projects. Come the '80's, the gospel of
sustainability was given more importance. That made a lot of sense, and
most of the farmers and fishers I worked with got the picture really fast.
You don't need a university degree, nor even graduation from high school, to
understand that you can't consume resources faster than they are replaced,
nor pollute faster than the environment can absorb, and expect good things
for your grandchildren. So self-restraint and even affordable
self-sacrifice is in order, there and here.

We talk the talk, but we don't walk the walk. We know what we want and we
want it now. We set a terrible example and our grandchildren will not thank
us. Nor should they.
