Hunting is limited by things like the fledging =C2=A0process and how much stress the population can endure, etc. so hunting cannot be done for most the of year. But hunting season is one of the best times to be in the woods and it would not be fair to nature enthusiasts to lose both weekend days of this unique season. =C2=A0 =C2=A0 From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca [mailto:naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca] On Behalf Of David & Alison Webster Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2015 9:53 PM To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca Subject: Just condition: e: [NatureNS] Nova Scotia Sunday Hunting survey =C2=A0 =C2=A0 Hi Ian & All,=C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 =C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 =C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 =C2= =A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 =C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 =C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 =C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 = =C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 =C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 =C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 Feb 18, 2015 =C2=A0 =C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 Having thought about this a bit, I think legalization of= =C2=A0Sunday hunting for big game is just. =C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 Give or take a few, there are 52 Sundays in a year of wh= ich about 6 fall in the big game season (someone may be able to provide more exact numbers). =C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 Those who must work Monday to Saturday inclusive AND don= 't wish to enter woods on legal big game hunting days have about 46=C2=A0Sundays to= do so.=C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 But in contrast, those who must work Monday to Saturday inclusive AND wish to hunt big game either have to hunt illegally on only 6 Sundays or not=C2=A0hunt. =C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 Therefore I think it only just that hunting of big game= =C2=A0on Sunday be legalized. Non-hunters who must work Monday to Saturday inclusive would on the other hand have a valid case if the numbers were reversed; 6 Sundays without hunting and 46 Sundays with hunting. =C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 And furthermore it is relevant that non-hunters can lega= lly enter woods on hunting days. Not=C2=A0entering is their choice and=C2=A0not= an enforced restriction. =C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0 QED =C2=A0 DW, Kentville =C2=A0 ----- Original Message ----- =C2=A0 From: Ian Manning =C2=A0 To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca =C2=A0 Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2015 10:39 AM =C2=A0 Subject: Re: [NatureNS] Nova Scotia Sunday Hunting survey =C2=A0 =C2=A0 I can see the argument from both sides. =C2=A0 =C2=A0 To add to Dave's comment according to a 2007 letter by the NS federation of Anglers and Hunters Tony Rodgers, in the Nova Outdoors magazine=C2=A0no non-hunting person has been killed or injured in a hunting= accident (not to say it couldn't happen).=C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0 http://www.nsfah.ca/magazine/pdf/a04fbcf06aec56ed62c08fc353619ad4.pdf =C2=A0 It sounds like most of the arguments are centered towards humans enjoying recreation in the woods on Sundays, as opposed to giving animals Sunday to rest. I agree that hearing gun-shots while out walking in the woods, can be a little unnerving though it's unlikely you're in danger, especially if you're wearing orange. If the noise and disturbance factor is the main issue, perhaps the season should be open for bow-hunting. In the same letter Tony Rodgers suggests opening up Sunday hunting for bow-hunters. No noise, reduced range of harm, and better safety record than firearms. =C2=A0 Perhaps allowing bow-hunting on Sundays could be a reasonable compromise. =C2=A0 IM =C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0 No virus found in this message.
