There had to be a hard white frost before you could. Liverpool = area had such a law at some point many years ago, I believe. The = bayberry candles were for soothing coughs (asthmatics) and the soap = irritations of the skin. I recently gave away an old herbal (copy) that = explained a lot of this. I have made both candles and soap and indeed it = takes a huge amount of berries to get even a wee bit of the wax. Mixed = with bees wax was my recipe. Very valuable they are, those wee berries. = Marg Millard, White point, Queens ............................................... Bayberry=E2=80=94not barberry=E2=80=94has such a wonderful scent. You = can boil the berries in water until the wax melts and comes to the = surface. Then, when cooled, you can skim it off and mix it with regular = candle wax, for wonderful, scented candles. Lots of work though.
