This is the nest of a solitary wasp in the genus _Eumenes_ (_Eumenes
crucifera_ is the species known in the Maritimes). A common name is potter
wasps. They are in the same family as yellowjackets and hornets. Unlike
them, each female builds her own nest and hunts insect larvae (usually
small moth caterpillars or beetle larvae) on her own.
